The Civic Community Lounge
The Council is making good progress with the phased reopening of its services which were closed due to Covid-19 and we are now entering phase 4 of that schedule. Operating a multi-use Community Facility presents its challenges in terms of multiple use, multiple users, conflicts between use and pinch points. The Council’s number one priority is to ensure that users of our services are safe and that measures are in place to protect peoples’ health.
From Friday 11th September, the Civic Community Lounge will welcome back customers in the evening (lunchtimes, the following week). The Council and the Operator have worked hard to ensure that customers using the Civic Community Lounge alongside users of the Civic Centre can safely enjoy our services while recognising that the Civic Community Lounge has to remain financially viable. Therefore, the Civic Community Lounge will be operating social distancing at one metre plus mitigations. Therefore, customers to the Lounge:
- will need to register their details for NHS Test & Trace;
- should book a table by calling 0116 2160478 or through the “Round” app;
- will be served at their table or able to place order via an app;
- will not be able to stand (including at the bar);
- strictly observe social distancing at all times;
- from the same household/bubble will be allowed to sit together when the table is reserved.
Regular cleaning will be undertaken, tables and chairs sanitised between use, hand sanitiser will be available and contactless payments encouraged.
Except for exemptions, Face Masks are compulsory in the Community Centre unless seated in the Lounge when eating/drinking.

Other Services
An updated schedule has been approved for the phased reopening of Braunstone Town Council’s services.
This will apply to Braunstone Civic Centre - however, Thorpe Astley Community Centre will be hosting both the Pre-school/nursery and the GP Branch Surgery only for the foreseeable future and will not be reopening to the public until further notice.
The Councils Policy & Resources Committee has endorsed Covid-19 secure terms & conditions of hire and a revised pricing/free-use structure until the 31st March 2020. The P&R Committee will keep the situation under review going forward.
In accordance with the outline plans and direction of travel approved by Policy & Resources Committee on 11th June 2020, the Covid-19 response is complete for now, the recovery framework is in place and the Council is prepared for operating Covid-19 secure services.
As a result of this, from 1st September 2020, the Council will operate its services under normal business processes, taking into account the implications of Covid-19.
If at any point in the future, Covid-19 again presents a significant impact on the Council’s services and the community, then a further incident may be declared.
The Council is working with the service operator of the Civic Community Lounge in order to ensure it can open with Covid-19 secure arrangements in place. We will update this page when more information about the bar is available.
