NOTIFICATION OF ESSENTIAL FUTURE INVESTIGATION WORKS
M1 between junctions 21 and 22 in both directions
Highways England will be carrying out essential carriageway investigation works on the M1, in both directions, between junction 21 and junction 22.
The purpose of the works is to gain vital technical information which will help them to produce an accurate and efficient plan for resurfacing the road. By gathering this information, they can pull together a plan which helps us eliminate cracks, potholes and the deterioration of the road surface.
By doing this work now, they can ensure that motorist will benefit from improved road safety and journey reliability in the future.
When will the work take place?
Work is due to start on Monday 6 January 2020 and is scheduled for completion by Thursday 16 January.
To minimise inconvenience and disruption to road users, they will work overnight from Monday to Friday between 8:00pm and 6:00am.
To maintain a safe environment for our workforce and road users, they will need to install lane closures while they work. They will make sure that at least one lane remains open in each direction at all times and all carriageways will be fully open throughout the daytime.
The following closures will also apply in phases:
- M1 junction 21a northbound exit slip road
- M1 junction 21 southbound entry slip road
- M1 junction 21 northbound entry slip road
- M1 junction 21a southbound entry slip road
- M1 junction 21 southbound exit slip road
During these exit / entry slip road closures, fully signed diversion routes (which have been agreed with the Local Authority) will be in place.
They politely ask all heavy vehicles to follow the signed M1 diversion route, which will help minimise overnight disturbance experienced by communities in the surrounding areas.
